Red Deer College Hosts Indigenous Perspectives Conference

This free event, on January 30 and 31, is open to the public for the first time.

Red Deer College is hosting a two-day conference on Indigenous Perspectives on January 30 and 31. This is the college's fourth annual conference, and for the first time, it's free and open to the public.

A free screening will be held of Jordan River Anderson, The Messenger, Alanis Obomsawin's documentary about an Indigenous boy's hospitalization and the political fight that surrounded it. The film previously played at the Toronto International Film Festival to glowing reviews.

The conference will also feature Lyle Keewatin Richards speaking on the impact of the Red Deer area's residential schools, and a free soup and bannock lunch.

The conference began as an initiative for RDC Education students, but has been opened to the public to broaden the reach of these important stories, and to demonstrate how tragic events of the past still affect the Indigenous community.
